This Nuse reporter was fortunate enough to be offered an interview with Steven Mophet, the current writer of Dr Who, a few days before the launch of the latest series.

Nuse: So, we’re all anxious to see the latest outing of Matt Smith, the eleventh Doctor – and his sidekicks the delightful Karen Gillan and the rather impressive Arthur Darvill – in this next series of Dr Who, but I gather that recently questions have been asked of the future of the Time Lord; in particular, whether the Doctor might ever appear in the incarnation of a woman – a Time Lady, as it were. Do you think we’ll ever see a female Dr Who?

Steven: Well, I’m not so sure. It was mentioned to me a little while ago but I’m not convinced that it would work. For a start, we’d have no rename the series ‘Nurse Who’. But then, thinking about it, that might work. She could be a Lady of the Lamp on top of the Tardis – like Florence Nightingale in space, cleaning up the galaxy.

Nuse: Actually, I think you’ll find that women can be doctors too, just as nurses can be men. You’re displaying a terribly dated level of sexism there.

Steven: Am I. Oh, I’m terribly sorry. What with all the time travel that I’m forever writing about, I sometimes forget what the current attitudes of the day are. Okay then, let’s see… Of course, space is an enormous vacuum: we could call her Dr Hoover!

Nuse: Sweet Jesus…

Steven: No, hang on, this could really work! We could also do other stuff: there can be Cybermums and everything! We could give her a new nemesis called The Mistress!

At this point, I faked a severe stomach cramp, made my excuses and left. Bloody luvvies…
